ABBREVIATIONS/ACRONYMS


CALIFORNIA LEGISLATIVE PLATFORM
The statement of our legislative policies or positions. It is adopted each year at State Convention and defines the kind of legislation the California Federation chooses to support or to oppose.

CALIFORNIA WOMAN
The newspaper published by the California Federation. A subscription is automatic with the payment of a member's dues.

E R A
Equal Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution, guaranteeing no discrimination on the basis of gender.

49'er
A member who has contributed $49.00 to PEP during the course of a year.

FOUNDATION
Established by the National Federation in 1956 to administer the education and research aspects of BPW. The Foundation, among many other services, offers scholarships to deserving women to enable them to acquire the education necessary for careers in business and the professions.

G I A - GOVERNMENT IN ACTION
The Annual conference held in Sacramento for the purpose of keeping members informed of the operation of the California government and to draft the California Legislative Platform for presentation at the annual conference.

I D - INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT
A course available to BPW members and to non-members, which is designed to develop latent talents, give special knowledge about BPW, help individuals to achieve poise and confidence, and to develop speaking ability and leadership potential.

LEGISLATIVE SCREENING COMMITTEE
A State Committee composed of three members and the Legislation Chair, whose duty is to decide which specific bills introduced into the State Legislature should be acted upon by our Federation.

LOCAL ORGANIZATION - LO
The term use by the Federation in preference to club or chapter.

NATIONAL
The National Federation in Washington, D.C. "On-to-National" refers to attendance at the National Convention.

NATIONAL LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE
A legislative advocacy conference, the counterpart on the National level to California's Government-in-Action.

NATIONAL LEGISLATIVE PLATFORM
The statement of legislative policies or positions at the National level.

ON-TO-NATIONAL CHAIR
Person appointed at State or District level to promote attendance at National Convention.

P A C
A committee to endorse and support candidates for national office who endorse the BPW National Legislative Platform. PAC is supported by the voluntary contributions of BPW members.

P E P - POLITICAL EDUCATION AND PROMOTION
The PEP Committee endorses and supports candidates for state office who endorse BPW objectives and the State Legislative Platform. PEP is supported by the voluntary contributions from BPW members.

PROJECT 2012
A project to raise funds to refurbish our National Headquarters in Washington.
